Content that addresses common questions and pain points in your industry positions your brand as an authority and thought leader. This not only attracts an audience seeking guidance but also enhances your brand’s overall reputation.

Long-Term Results

Unlike fleeting marketing channels, content marketing stands the test of time. Its ability to deliver sustained, long-term results makes it an invaluable asset in the digital marketing arsenal.

Reaches Audiences Who Avoid Ads

With the rise of ad-blockers and ad fatigue, content marketing emerges as a beacon. By providing valuable content that audiences willingly engage with, you can cut through the noise and reach those who actively avoid traditional advertising.

In part 19 we learned about Hiding Affiliate Links, Fred, Affiliate Sites, Autogenerated Content, Excess PageRank Sculpting, IP Address Flagged as Spam, Meta Tag Spamming, Hacked Site, Unnatural Influx of Links, and Penguin Penalty.

191. Link Profile with High % of Low-Quality Links

Backlinks from low-quality websites such as forums and blog commenting as a Black Hat SEO practice to game the system can be considered spammy and prevent the rankings.

192. Links From Unrelated Websites

Backlinks from unrelated websites or just general sites in a huge number could result into a manual penalty by Google.

193. Unnatural Links Warning

Unnatural links are seen everywhere in the SERPs and are done using Back Hat techniques. Google Search Console shows unnatural link warnings messages and this can lead to a drop in rankings.

194. Low-Quality Directory Links

Backlinks from low-quality directories could increase spam scores and ultimately lead to a drop in rankings and manual penalty.

195. Widget Links

Google disapproves the links that are automatically generated whenever a user embeds links on their site.

196.  Links from the Same Class C IP

It is obvious to Google that links coming from the same IP address all at once to a website could be from a Private Blog Network and a manual penalty is inevitable.

 197. “Poison” Anchor Text

“Poison Anchor Texts” are the exact match ones such as pharmacy keywords that could indicate spammy signals to Google and lead to a manual penalty.

198. Unnatural Link Spike

Unnatural Link Spike could affect rankings as Google’s patent in 2013 confirms that unnatural links are devalued and often questioned to be spammy.

199. Links From Article Directories and Press Releases

Links from article directories and press releases are abused to such a point that Google considers them a link scheme. Too many press release backlinks can be harmful to your website.

200. Manual Actions

Manual Actions happen when a Googler manually reviews a website and sends a penalty to it. These happen mainly as a result of Black Hat link-building techniques.

In part 18 we learned about Panda Penalty, Links To Bad Neighborhood, Redirects, Popups, Interstitial Popups, Site Over-Optimization, Gibberish Content, Doorway Pages, and Ads Above The Fold.

181. Hiding Affiliate Links

You just cannot hide affiliate links on websites because it can lead to a manual penalty. It’s better to use no-follow tags on affiliate links.

182. Fred

Fred is a series of Google updates from the year 2017. Fred Update puts down sites that just want to add up revenue to their bank accounts rather than providing helpful content.

183. Affiliate Sites

Google has been pushing out Algorithm Updates with regard to Affiliate Sites in particular. These updates have been hammered down with frequent algorithm updates for no reason sometimes.

184. Autogenerated Content

Google has clearly stated that Auto Generated content with the purpose to manipulate search rankings and not provide value to readers could be manually penalized.

Here is what Google has to say about Autogenerated Content:

185. Excess PageRank Sculpting

PageRank sculpting used to work back in the day. This essentially means controlling the link juice on a website using No-Follow links. This excludes the pages to rank for and includes No-Follow attributes for the links you don’t want the links to flow to.

186. IP Address Flagged as Spam

This is a controversial topic. If an IP Address is flagged as spam then it may affect all the sites hosted on that server.

187. Meta Tag Spamming

Meta Tag spamming is a common practice that does not work always. Meta Tag spamming includes adding keywords in Title Tag and Meta Description unnecessarily. Google could take manual action against such a practice.

Off-Site Webspam Factors

188. Hacked Site

If a site is hacked then Google may deindex your sites and all the pages altogether. Interestingly Google completely deindexed Search Engine Land just for the suspicion of a hack.

189. Unnatural Influx of Links

Unnatural backlinks on a website could mean spamming and result in a manual penalty. Make sure you do not buy backlinks from sellers that promise 1000+ backlinks for merely $50.

190. Penguin Penalty

Websites that were hit by the Penguin update are less visible on Google’s Search Engine Results Page. Nowadays Google just does not penalize such sites instead it ignores spammy links.

On-Site Webspam Factors

172. Panda Penalty

Websites with low-quality content (a result of non-expert content writers) often get penalized on the SERPs. These websites get less visible on search engines after the panda penalty.

173. Links to Bad Neighborhoods

This is not a major ranking factor but outbound links from your site to websites in so-called “Bad Neighborhoods” could affect negatively.

174. Redirects

This is also known as cloaking. This refers to the difference between the content and code shown to search engines and users. Such redirects are a big no.

175. Popups or “Distracting Ads”

We all know how irritating popups or ads on websites are. Google has officially declared that popups and distracting ads are a sign of low-quality websites.

176. Interstitial Popups

Interstitial popups refer to the popups that appear all over the display. These pop-ups can result in a penalty by Google. According to Google such practices can hinder easy access to content.

177. Site Over-Optimization

It is true that Google will penalize or deindex sites that are over-optimized. Over-optimization includes things such as keyword stuffing, title tag keyword stuffing, meta description stuffing, etc.

178. Gibberish Content

Gibberish content does not help users and is easily identified by Google. Gibberish content can be spun content that is auto-generated and Google can identify it within its algorithm.

179. Doorway Pages

Doorway pages are the ones that are redirected from an existing page on a website. If a page on a website is redirected to another page it is called a ‘Doorway Page’. Google doesn’t like the use of excessive Doorway Pages.

180. Ads Above the Fold

Ads above the fold mean a site getting bombarded with display advertisements. Google may penalize sites that have too many ads with less content.

In part 16 we learned about Domain Diversity, Transactional Searches, Local Searches, Top Stories Box, Big Brand Preference, Shopping Results, Image Results, Easter Egg Results, Single Site Results, and Payday Loans Update.

Brand Signals

161. Brand Name Anchor Text

Backlinks with brand-name anchor texts to the homepage can be beneficial for websites. Such anchor texts send brand/quality signals to Google.

162. Branded Searches

Branded searches send trust signals to Google. If people search for your brand online, Google considers your domain as a real brand.

163. Brand + Keyword Searches

People often search for keywords that include brand/website names. This gives Google a quality signal toward a specific website.

Example: Percoyo SEO Company in India

 164. Site Has Facebook Page and Likes

Websites with FaceBook Page likes to tend to have social signals that may help in search rankings.

165. Site has Twitter Profile with Followers

Twitter profiles with many followers send users to websites along with trust and quality signals.

166. Official Linkedin Company Page

LinkedIn page is one of the social signals that help with SEO. Real businesses do have a LinkedIn page that adds a trust signal in the eyes of Google.

167. Known Authorship

Google has confirmed that known authorship sends relevant author signals that help content rank at the top.

Here is what Google’s former CEO ‘Eric Schmidt’ had to say about Authorship:

“Within search results, information tied to verified online profiles will be ranked higher than content without such verification, which will result in most users naturally clicking on the top (verified) results. The true cost of remaining anonymous, then, might be irrelevance.”

168. Legitimacy of Social Media Accounts

Social Media Account spam is seen on many websites that appear on the SERP. Google will treat social media accounts with 1000 followers, 5 posts, and zero interaction differently when compared to accounts with 1000 followers and constant interaction.

169. Brand Mentions on Top Stories

Big Brands often get mentioned in the ‘Top Stories’ on Google’s SERP all the time. These brands have a news section located on their website that happens to appear on the first page of Google.

170. Unlinked Brand Mentions

Even though brand names get mentioned without linking to the website, Google considers this as a brand mention or a quality signal. Here is a detailed post about unlinked brand mentions.

171. Brick and Mortar Location

Physical Location can be a quality signal that Google determines to assess whether a website is a brand or not. Google may fetch deeply into the data to find the actual address of a ‘Branded Website’.

In the previous part, we learned about Dwell Time, Query Freshness and Diversity, User browsing and search history, Featured Snippets, Geo Targeting, Safe Search, YMYL Keywords, and DMCA Complaints.

151. Domain Diversity

Google’s BigFoot update says there will be domain diversity on a SERP. This can be classified as a minor update but is never a crucial factor to look into.

152. Transactional Searches

Google shows transactional features for specific searches with transactional intent. If you search for “How To Go From Bangalore to Delhi” you will see such results:

153. Local Searches

Local Searches are the searches basically made based on a geographical location. Google displays Local Pack 3 results at the beginning of organic results.

154. Top Stories box

Google shows “Top Stories Box” for certain queries. Make sure to optimize your website for stories if you fall under any story category.

155. Big Brand Preference

Big Brand Preference is given to brand websites over other authority websites on Google’s Search Engine Results Page after the Venice update.

156. Shopping Results

Google shows shopping results on the SERP for some shopping-related queries. These include both organic and paid results.

159. Single Site Results for Brands

160. Payday Loans Update

Google’s Payday Loans Update was launched in 2014 to combat spammy queries.

Special Google Algorithm Rules

142. Query Deserves Freshness

Google’s algorithm gives a special advantage to content freshness. Updating content once every 3 months is advised by many SEO experts.

143. Query Deserves Diversity

Query Deserves Diversity refers to the diversity in the search results on a Search Engine Results Page for a broad search term. For example results for “GDP’ will show up on 10 different websites with different titles and content.

144. User Browsing History

Google uses browsing history to rank web pages on Google. This can be subjective. You may have noticed before that the pages you have already visited show up higher compared to other users on Google’s SERP.

145. User Search History

Rankings according to a user’s search history are experienced every day. Organic search rankings are partially subjective to users’ search history. If you search for ‘reviews’ and then search for just ‘smartphones’, you will find review websites at the top.

146. Featured Snippets

Featured Snippet has taken over many searches on the internet. Google uses websites with accurate answers to show them on the top. The content length, format, page authority, and HTTP are some of the factors to get featured snippets for your site.

147. Geo-Targeting

Geo-Targeting is the best for Local SEO. Google gives a preference for sites that are located in a specific country with specific TLDs.

148. Safe Search

Safe Search refers to a setting on the chrome browser that does not allow websites with adult content, cuss words, and sensitive visuals to appear on the Search Engine Results Page.

In part 13 we learned about reciprocal links, UGC links, links from 301, schema markup, trust rank, number of outbound links, forum links, word count and quality of linking content, and sitewide links.

131. Rank Brain

RankBrain is one of Google’s Algorithms. This specific algorithm determines the user interactions on the Search Engine Results Page. If a user tends to click on the third result rather than the 1st one on a SERP, RankBrain detects this signal and most probably ranks it at the top.

132. Organic Click-Through Rate for a Keyword

According to Google, pages that get the most click-through rate on a Search Engine Results Page tend to rank higher as compared to the ones that get less CTR.

 133. Organic CTR for All Keywords

It is basically a ‘quality score’ for organic results. Your site may give a user interaction signal to Google, if all keywords appearing on the SERP are visited by Humans.

134. Bounce Rate

Although not every SEO believes that bounce rate could be a factor for organic rankings. But this can be a quality and user interaction signal to Google. Actually, SEMRUSH conducted a case study which shows the correlation between bounce rate and direct website visitors.

135. Direct Traffic

Google uses Google Chrome’s data to determine how many direct visitors a site gets and how often it gets. Websites that get direct visitors are more likely to rank above the ones that have less direct traffic.

136. Repeat Traffic

Websites that get repeat traffic that users love is bound to rank higher with consistent traffic.

137. Pogo sticking

Pogosticking is another type of bounce than happens frequently on the SERP. Here users click on other results after reading a page on the SERP to know more or satisfy the search intent.

138. Blocked Sites

Although Google discontinued this feature long before but it could be a quality signal that is still used.

139. Chrome Bookmarks

Google uses data of the users including search intent, keywords, history much more. Bookmarked pages by users/people can be a ranking factor and might give a boost in search rankings.

 140. Number of Comments

Comments definitely help with organic rankings on Google. They are a signal of user interaction and content quality on a webpage.

Here is what a Googler had to say about this:

141. Dwell Time

Dwell Time means how much time users actually spend on your website/webpage. The more time spent on a webpage the more it is likely to rank higher on organic SERP.
